Gravenstein students have been designing and building simple robots using servo motors and LED’s controlled by Microbits. I recommend watching YouTube videos about how to program the servos and LED’s. It’s also possible to use a motor driver board to control DC motors to make fan cars and boats. See the Radio Control section of this site for tips on how to make RC versions of these. Here are the materials we are using in case you’d like to build some of these robots at home:

Microbit

Microbit shield

Servo motors

LED’s

Alligator clips

Any 9V DC power supply

Joe Szuecs and I brought these health care assistance robots to Gravenstein to demonstrate how Joe was able to hack and control them using a Microbit and a joystick.
A cat robot made by a pair of 2nd graders. Next they will add LED lights.
